What is a Knowledge Base?
The Information Technology Knowledge Base (ITkb) serves to answer commonly asked IT questions with a variety of information and how-to guides. To access ITkb, go to the MyYCP homepage and click the ITkb icon under the Main Application menu. To find relevant articles, explore the clickable categories or use key terms in the search option.

The following will help guide you through the basics and advanced features of the Information Technology Knowledge Base. For more detailed information, some of the following answers will link to more in-depth ITkb articles that can be accessed at the user’s discretion.
Q: What is York College’s Information Technology Knowledge Base (ITkb)?:
A: The Information Technology Knowledge Base (ITkb) is a collection of how-to, troubleshooting, and informational articles that provides a self-help resource at the fingertips of the York College community as information technology issues are encountered. The articles themselves are designed to answer a question a user might have, such as: “How do I set up my personal device on the YCP Wireless Network?”
Q: How can I access ITkb?:
A: From the myYCP homepage, you can easily access ITkb by clicking the icon under Main Applications. Most articles require the user to be signed into your myYCP account, but some Public Categories do not require the user to be logged in. Q: How do I find articles?:
A: The ITkb page is set up using a series of categories and subcategories to try and guide the you to relevant articles, according to a particular issue. For step-by-step instructions and more information.
Q: What are categories?:
A: To help the you easily find articles that are related to one another, many articles are grouped into specific categories. Keep in mind, not every article is available to be viewed. Based on the your status -student, faculty/staff member, parent, or etc., and the article’s option of being public or private will affect your ability to view the article. To view all your available categories, go to the following ITkb page.
Q: How can I save or keep a copy of an article?:
A: While we encourage you not to print out an article (so you do not miss any updates that may occur), there are various options for you to save an article for quick reference. On the bottom of each article, you will see the options: Print Article, Email Article to Friend, Export to PDF, Export to MS Word, and Bookmark Article.
Q: Having trouble finding something?:
A: There are multiple ways to find articles if you are having trouble finding what you’re looking for. There is a search function available at the top right of the web page where you can type in a keyword, title, or even a category to pull up selected articles that may pertain to your particular issues. For more information on using the advanced search tool.
Q: Have a comment or suggestion?:
A: If you would like to tell us something about a particular article, scroll down to the bottom of the article and enter your comment in the comments field. If an article is unclear, if there is a keyword you searched for and did not find, or if the article was helpful to you, we want to know! Also, let us know how you rate the information included in that particular article by giving it a rating (not available for every article).
